FAQ about this page


What is this?
This is exactly the same as my text tag cloud, only each tag, rather than being written out, is represented by an image, which is re-sized and made more opaque based on its relavance, just like the size of the text changes in the text tag cloud.

How are the images chosen?
Using the Flickr API I pass through the tag, e.g "blog", as the search term / keyword, and the first result I get I display as the image for that tag. Simple. If no image is returned I don't display the tag.

Why do this?
As with most things because I can, and it is interesting to see what images come back for what tags. As the images are constantly changing, along with my tag cloud, it is a pretty organic page, and I think it is pretty cool to see how my site might be represented by pictures. Its also a great way to discover images I might be interested in.

Why is it slow to load?
Whilst I do use caching, when the images are updated they have to get the new ones using the Flickr api. Unfortuately this isn't as fast as it should be, so the page takes a little while to build.
